Market-Specific Title Generator

A market-specific title generator assembles one set of product details into the exact field order and character limit each marketplace enforces. Enter your product once, pick a channel, and get three ready-to-paste titles with a live counter, a mobile truncation preview and the current rule sheet for that channel. Amazon now caps titles at 75 characters, eBay at 80, Etsy at 140, Google Shopping at 150.

Marketplace title limits at a glance

Ranking length and display length are different numbers on every channel. The first column is what the field accepts; the third is what a shopper actually reads on a phone.

Amazon's 75-character cap applies from 27 July 2026 in every category except Media, with a separate 125-character Item Highlights field alongside it.

What a market-specific title actually is

A product title is two things at once: an index record the marketplace reads to decide which searches you belong in, and a display line a shopper skims in a grid of near-identical tiles. Every marketplace weighs those two jobs differently, which is why one title copied across channels always underperforms on at least two of them.

Amazon has moved decisively toward the index-record view. From 27 July 2026 the title is a short identity field of 75 characters, with the descriptive load pushed into a second 125-character Item Highlights field. The title now carries roughly half of Amazon's keyword ranking weight, so the primary keyword has to lead — there is no room to bury it.

eBay sits at the other end. Cassini scores token overlap between the query and the title, so unused characters are unmatched queries. The practical target is 78 to 80 characters, with the decisive words inside the first 50 because that is all a phone shows.

Etsy tolerates the most room at 140 characters but shows the least, around 40. Google Shopping accepts 150 and displays about 70, and treats promotional words as a disapproval risk rather than a style choice.

How to write a title that survives every channel

Lead with the search phrase, not the adjective. Words like beautiful, premium and unique occupy the highest-visibility characters on the page and tell the algorithm nothing. Put the noun a buyer types in position one.

Write attributes, not adjectives. Material, size, colour, pack count and model number are the terms buyers filter and search by. They also survive an automated rewrite, because a rewrite engine keeps identifiers and drops persuasion.

Never repeat a word. Repetition wins nothing on any modern marketplace and triggers rewrite or suppression on Amazon and Walmart. One mention indexes the term.

Strip promotional language entirely. Sale, best, free shipping, lowest price and their variants are prohibited in Amazon titles and in the Google Shopping title attribute, and they burn characters that an attribute could have used.

Front-load for the truncation point, not the limit. Write the full length the field allows, then check that the title still identifies the product when it is cut at the display point — 50 characters on eBay, 40 on Etsy, 70 on Walmart and Google.

Frequently asked questions

What is the character limit for an Amazon product title?
Amazon caps product titles at 75 characters including spaces in every category except Media, effective 27 July 2026. Media titles remain near 200 characters. Amazon also introduced a separate Item Highlights field holding up to 125 searchable characters, so the total indexable space stays around 200 characters — it is simply split across two fields instead of one.
Does Amazon really limit titles to 75 characters now?
Yes. Amazon posted the change to Seller Central on 10 June 2026 and enforces it from 27 July 2026. Titles still above 75 characters after that date are gradually rewritten by Amazon's own AI, which keeps the brand and core noun and drops what it judges redundant. Brand-registered sellers get a 14-day window in Review Listing Changes to accept or reject the rewrite; other sellers do not get a review step.
What is the eBay title character limit?
80 characters, enforced at input. eBay rejects a longer title rather than trimming it. Mobile search results typically display only the first 50 to 55 characters, so the brand, product type and defining attribute belong at the very front of the title.
What is the Etsy title character limit?
140 characters, and spaces and punctuation both count. Only the first 40 characters or so are reliably visible in Etsy search results, and Etsy's algorithm ignores capitalisation and most punctuation, so comma-separated keyword phrases work well as long as they read naturally.
What is the Walmart product title character limit?
Walmart recommends 50 to 75 characters and shortens titles past roughly 70 characters on both mobile and desktop. Walmart's own structure is brand, then clothing size group where it applies, then defining quality, item name, style and pack count. Walmart penalises keyword stuffing more aggressively than Amazon does.
What is the TikTok Shop product title character limit?
TikTok Shop seller guidance sets product titles between 25 and 200 characters. In practice, 40 to 80 front-loaded characters perform best, because TikTok Shop search matches buyer queries against the product title and shoppers scan quickly. Titles made only of codes, numbers or special characters are not allowed.
What is the Google Shopping title character limit?
Google Merchant Center accepts titles up to 150 characters but displays only about 70 in Shopping ads and free product listings. Put brand, product type and the most distinctive attribute inside the first 70 characters. Promotional text such as sale, free shipping or best price is prohibited in the title attribute and can cause disapproval.
How do I write an SEO product title?
Lead with the exact phrase a buyer types, name the product in plain language, then add the attributes that separate your item from a near-identical one: material, size, colour, pack count, model number. Use each marketplace's own field order, keep every word unique, and stop at the limit rather than padding. A title is an identity field first and a marketing line second.
Why do marketplaces truncate titles?
Search results are a grid of small tiles, and mobile tiles have room for a fixed number of lines. The marketplace indexes the whole title for ranking but only shows what fits the tile. That is why ranking length and display length are two different numbers: eBay indexes 80 characters and shows about 50, Google accepts 150 and shows about 70, Etsy accepts 140 and shows about 40.
What is the best product title structure?
Primary search term, brand, product type, then defining attributes in descending order of how often buyers filter by them — material, colour, size, pack count. Amazon and Walmart want title case with no promotional language. Etsy tolerates comma-separated phrases. Google Shopping wants attributes first and no marketing copy at all.
Is my product data uploaded anywhere by this tool?
No. Every title is assembled by JavaScript string logic inside your own browser. There is no API call, no server, no account and no analytics on your inputs. Closing the tab discards everything except your light or dark theme choice.
